In the ambience to the last place filled Mokranjac's house, within 59. In the days of mokranjac, an extremely visited and inspiring scientific panel entitled "Media character of Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac" was held, moderated by Dr. Sanda Dodik.
The presentation of Dr. Alexandra Paladin, a musicologist and media theorist, offered an original and contemporary insight into the ways in which the work of the great Serbian composer can be viewed through the prism of media codes and modern communication platforms.
The scientific panel has illuminated Mokranjac's oeuvre as a media message with multiple levels of meaning — as a sound, as a visual symbol, as a cultural reference and as a potential for branding in the digital age.
Starting from the concept of" creative treatment of reality "by media theorist John Greerson, Dr. Paladin analyzed how Mokranjac" comes to life " in a contemporary media context — as a character, as a conductor, as a voice in documentary forms, or as a symbol of national identity.
Special emphasis was placed on the role of Audiovisual Media in the construction of musical identity, as well as on the issues that media presentation of music opens up:
What message does music send to the media?
What identity does it gain in the media context?
Can Music be treated as a non-verbal message?
Through the analysis of specific examples of digital and television media practices, the audience got the opportunity to see how Stevan Mokranjac's music can be re — identified and adapted to the modern audience-through shows, serials, documentary formats, as well as through new communication channels such as social networks and digital platforms.
In particular, the concept of the modern music scene as a dynamic media space that encourages the re-affirmation of cultural heritage and opens up the possibility of creating a new audience for art music. The role of media as a tool for the formation of cultural habits, but also as a field for innovative approaches to the presentation of musical heritage, was emphasized.
The scientific panel of Dr. Aleksandra Paladin in Negotin once again confirmed that Stevan Mokranjac's heritage does not belong exclusively to the past — it is a vital part of our present, and with a creative and responsible approach to contemporary media, it can become a powerful inspiration for the future of cultural communication and artistic expression.
"Media character of Stevan Mokranjac – a big topic that opens the question: How do we see Mokranjac through all that the media can be? When we open this topic, we only see that it is not only radio, television, print media, but that we have to look at the media through a much larger prism – what Mokranjac can say to us through conversations about him, shows, television and radio shows, plays, documentaries, feature series. We can ask the question: how much and to what extent can his music, which we listen to from the stage and enjoy the performances of great choirs, become completely different and send a completely different message if we listen to it in a new performance, a performance of a new time? By which, perhaps, we would bring a young man to the concert hall, perhaps to a new amateur choir or some other ensemble, showing that Mokranjac is not a terrible composer, that he is an ordinary man who has received the gift of being able to compose, that he found his inspiration in what is tradition – and that all that interested him is actually part of his artistic personality, which reaches out to each of us: whether we listen to him through what is his traditional performance, in instrumental form, or modified into some jazz or gospel variety, or we listen to him in a completely new sound that could be brought to us by a new generation – the very ones that can come to the scene. And for that, we need young people who will recognize Mokranjac as a media idea, who will recognize him as an interesting hero who can become the main character of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and some new social networks that are yet to come,“ said Dr. Alexandra Paladin.
