TRIBUTE TO STEVAN STOJANOVIĆ MOKRANJAC
String Quartet Stanislav Binički (MoD Art Ensemble), Belgrade
Stanislav Binički, our celebrated composer, teacher, military bandleader, organizer of musical life in Serbia, author of the first Serbian opera and the patriotically inspired March on the Drina, founded the first Belgrade military orchestra on September 26, 1899. In the decades that followed, the name of the ensemble changed, through the Royal Guard Orchestra and the Yugoslav People’s Army Ensemble, to the present day – the Stanislav Binički Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defense. By achieving rich cooperation with the most eminent artists from the country and abroad, the numerous successful performances of this orchestra before domestic and foreign audiences, as well as high artistic standards and a wide range of performing possibilities, are confirmation of the quality of the orchestra that has rightly and proudly borne the name of its founder since 1994. The ensemble is today an institution of the Public Relations Department, which, with its program and repertoire diversity and genre adaptability, continues its noble mission, while affirming music from both our and the world’s musical heritage. The ensemble represents the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces in a worthy manner, conveying the glory of Serbian musical treasures throughout our country and most European countries.
The members of the Symphony Orchestra have performed all over the world, in over thirty countries, received more than a hundred awards, and have recorded over three hundred records, cassettes, and CDs.
